Race Entry

I've entered the 2020 event, what happens now?

You will receive an email confirmation, please have a read and keep it for your records. We will send you email updates throughout the year and vital event information as race day approaches.

I haven't recieved my email confirmation, what should I do ?

Check your junk folder, if it is not there then it is likely that your online entry did not get processed so please contact info@brixhamharbourtri.com

How can I amend my details?

If you need to change details on your entry form please email info@brixhamharbourtri.com

Can I defer my entry or receive a refund?

Unfortunately we do not offer refunds. You can defer your entry to the following year if your request is made before the end of May 2020. 

Can I transfer my entry?

Entries are non-transferable. You must not transfer your entry to another indivdual under any circumstance.

Is there a team entry option?

Brixham Harbour Triathlon does not offer a team entry.

When will I receive my race number?

Race numbers are not posted out. You will need to collect your number at registration on the event day. 

Do I need to be a British Triathlon Federation member?

No, however it is advised to have membership, which covers third party insurance, legal services, personal accident insurance, including international race coverage.

 

If you are a BTF member you must bring your membership card to the event.

 

If you are not a member you will be asked to pay a fee for a day license which provides you with insurance for personal injury. The cost is £6 for adults and £3 for children, (cash on the day). This is mandatory as we are operating under British Triathlon Federation rules.

What are the age restrictions for competing?

Competitors must be at least 18 years old.

Race Day

What time does the race start?

That depends which wave you are in. Individual wave and start time information will be emailed out prior to the race! The first wave is likely to set off at 7AM.

How do I get to the race?

The race start, finish and transition area are located at Oxen Cove car park in Brixham. Please use Google Maps to plan your journey to the event. 

Is there parking available?

There is limited parking next to the transition available  on a first come, first served basis. This car park is run by Torbay Council. There are a number of car parks in Brixham town centre, within a 5 minute walk to the start, as well as limited road parking available.

Are there toilets?

Yes portable toilets will be available at the event.

How do I collect my race number?

Race pack collection will take place at the Registration Tent. You must register in person and bring photo identification. Registration will be open from 6AM on the morning of the event, with early registration available in the afternoon of Saturday 30th May. 

When do I recieve my results?

 All results will be listed on the event website after the race. You will have an opportunity on site to view your times and splits, and you will receive a printout of your performance on request.

Can I wear headphones?

Not while you are competing as you need to hear marshal instructions and be aware of other cyclists.

Can I wear a race belt?

Yes, however your number must be clearly visible at all times otherwise you may be subjected to a two-minute penalty as per British Triathlon Rules. You mustn’t fold or cut down your race number in any way. Please write any medical information on the back of your number.

When will I find out my wave time?

Exact start information will be available online before the race. This is subject to change so please keep checking the website.

You've got my age group wrong.

Your age group is defined by your age on the 31st Dec of the year of the race.

Swim

What stroke do I have to use?

Any swim stroke can be used.

Do I need a swim hat?

Yes, but these will provided in your race pack. 

Do I need swim goggles?

Goggles are not essential but are highly recommended.

What safety measures are in place?

Brixham Harbour Triathlon will have full medical and safety cover, paddle boards, lifeguards and powered boats.

Do I have to wear a wetsuit?

The wearing of wetsuits in triathlon is governed by British Triathlon rules and is totally dependent on water temperature one hour before the start of the event.
Water temperature – less than 14°c – Wetsuits are compulsory
Water temperature – between 14°c and 22°c – Wetsuits are optional (you can choose whether to wear one or not)
Water temperature above 22 °c – Wetsuits are banned
The sea average temperature for September is 17°c.
We would recommend wearing a wetsuit.

Can I wear my race number under my wetsuit?

Yes, the race numbers are waterproof and tearproof.

What happens if the condition of the sea is not suitable on the day?

We will work closely with the relevant authorities to advise whether the sea swim is safe. If swimming is impossible, the event will be a Duathlon (run, bike, run). This is the normal default within the sport of triathlon.

Bike

What is the bike course like?

It’s pretty challenging. There are a number of tough climbs, rewarded with some fun descents, and plenty of flat stretches.

What bike can I use?

You can use any bike, except for fixed wheel bikes or e-bikes. 

Can I use a mountain bike?

Yes, however, the majority of competitors will be using road bikes.

Can I use tri bars?

Yes, as long as they conform to British Triathlon rules.

Does my helmet meet safety standards?

Please refer to British Triathlon rules, if in doubt please check with a local bike shop. You will need to bring your helmet with you when you register and this will be checked by one of our officials to make sure it is race compliant.

Can I draft?

Drafting is not allowed.

When do I rack my bike?

All bikes will be racked on Sunday morning, ahead of the race, in the transition area.

Run

Is it a flat course?

The course is best described as undulating. There are no steep climbs, and there is plenty of flat to put the hammer down!

Do I need to wear specific running shoes?

No.

Where do I put my race number?

Your race number should be pinned on your front for the run or alternatively you can use a number belt.
